Another metal band member steps away from his band as we see Peter Lindgren quit Opeth. In a statement on the band’s official website, the band announced the departure of Peter after a prolific sixteen years with the band and even presented a personal statement from Peter.

In his statement, he states that it has been the toughest decision he has ever needed to make but that it was the best choice at that particular point in his life. He also goes to give out the reason for leaving saying that he simply lost his drive and inspiration to continue on with the band. He mentions how he has always loved music and will always love music but that he has lost that spark he needed due to the massive amount of touring.

He gave props to the band for working extremely hard to maintain an incredible quality of music but hates the fact that he has to spend close to two years on the road every time they tour. With an upcoming world tour, he felt it was necessary to make the decision at a calmer time instead of knowing that he was to go into the tour with less than 100% that he knows is not good for all parties involved.

Given all that, former guitarist of Arch Enemy Fredrik Åkesson has been named as Peter’s replacement. Mikael Åkerfeldt went on to comment on Fredrik’s addition to Opeth saying that he was the only name that came to mind to replace Peter and that he’s one of the top guitar players from Sweden. The fact that they have known each other for a few years only adds to the pros seeing that Fredrik knows the life he is now set to lead.
