Cathedral

CathedralThe band Cathedral was first created in Coventry, England. It was formed in the year 1990. Lee Dorrian was the one that first decided to form the band. The group also had Mark Griffith and Garry Jennings. There first songs were in the doom metal style with a slow and dark metal sound. The first of their albums were recorded and released through Earache Records.

Previously, in 1989, Dorrian decided to leave his band, Napalm Death. There was a main reason that he chose to do this. He decided that he was not happy with the punk sounds that the band was using and the death metal sounds that they were trying to go for. He wanted something different. Mark Griffiths got together with Dorrian and they created Cathedral. Both of these artists had a strong love for the doom sounds of groups like Candlemass, Trouble, and Dream Death. The two created a new sound that combined death and doom metal but, in reality they were really creating a modern doom metal sound. As time went by, they refined the sound even more and today they are best known for a stoner and grove type of metal sound.

Lee Dorian and Garry Jennings are on guitar. Jennings has returned after leaving the band for awhile and then decided to come back within a short time. The last album that they recorded had a very unique feature about it. It was designed as a scratch and sniff CD. If you rub the CD, you will get the smell of apples. If the CD gets warm in some different types of CD players, the apple smell will also be noticeable. As the smell of apples wear off, you may get a very bad celery smell to the CD. No one knows if this is supposed to happen only that it does.
