Finnish metal band Nightwish is done when it comes to searching for a new mouth for their trademark sound. The band has announced that Annete Olzon, formerly of the Swedish band Alyson Avenue, will be replacing the former singer of the band Tarja Turunen.

After having gone through over 2000 applications and auditions, the band immediately knew that they had found a perfect match after having met Olzon on her very first visit to Finland early in the year. The band has released an official statement saying that Olzon is already exceeding whatever expectation they had and that the new album will be a monster now that she’s on board.

With credentials as good as Olzon’s it would take a crazy person not think that she would be a perfect choice. She has been performing and singing since she was a kid and has studied and performed in prestigious music schools such as Göteborg Balettakademie, Copenhagen Conservatory and Malmö Music University.

For the moment, Nightwish is in the studio working on a new record with their new voice. The album is due out this fall. As the rest of the band has said of the new line up: “long live the new Nightwish”.

In a few short months, the rest of the metal world will know if Olzon fills Turunen’s shoes or if she goes beyond all expectations just as the rest of her new band mates think. Given her music history, none of us should expect any less and would have to settle with what Nightwish says of her.
